Murder.—Aaron Bacheler, of Cumberland, was committed to jail last Saturday on a charge of having murdered his wife. He had been previously confined nearly a year, for want of sureties to keep the peace, on complaint of his wife, whom he had ill treated. He had been intemperate, and after a short abstinence, was seized with delirium tremens, and killed his wife in the night. His own account is, that in the night he imagined that he was attacked by the devil, and that he killed him with an axe. Upon awaking in the morning, he found that he had murdered his wife. He called his family, and made no attempt to escape or to conceal his crime.—Prov. Journal.
