Full Text

The Currency Bill.—The N. York American states that, "the opinion of the Attorney General, as originally prepared, was in favor of the Bill—the Attorney General having innocently supposed that his reasons, and not one of a political or personal purpose, was required. When, however, the Hero heard the conclusion at which his Attorney General arrived, he burst forth in one of his usual storms, which speedily undeceived that official as to the wishes of his master; and accordingly the opinion was taken back, manipulated afresh, and made to put to just an opposite conclusion. We give the story as we heard it, only adding, that the time when the truth of the story of Mr. Butler would have been doubted impossible, has passed by. Mr. Butler's political character and integrity have stood the test of official responsibility and Executive favor."
