WEDNESDAY, MAY 6.
From the N. York Spectator.
The late election in Connecticut, more than any one for several years past, evinces that the people of that State are at length roused to see the dangers with which they are threatened, and to feel the importance of standing to their post, for the defence of those venerable institutions and "steady habits," which have been the foundation of their civil and domestic happiness for more than a century and a half. There have not been fewer Democrats chosen representatives for their Legislature for several sessions past. The party, at present, seems only large enough to be seen in retrogression.
How aptly was the situation of that State described, by a certain Republican* of this city, last fall, on his return from an unsuccessful attempt to revolutionize it. "Connecticut must be given up.--There is no
"hope for them. We may as soon attempt
"to revolutionize the kingdom of heaven.
"There is not a respectable man in the State
"who is not a Federalist."
* The Vice-President.
