POETRY

For the Star.

When the morning stars sung together and all the sons of
God shouted for joy—Job 38:7.

A world from nought to being sprung,
The planets on their axles hung—
While countless stars dispersed abroad
Were balanced by the power of God.
The sun to rule the world by day,
The moon, when he had fled away,
Were placed in order with the spheres,
For signs, for seasons, and for years.
The finny tribes the sea did swim,
The birds the liquid air did wing;
While beast on hills and in the shade
Answered the end for which they're made.
Man in God's image then appeared,
Of things below he was the lord;
Of those in air, the sea and wood,
And all was then called "very good."
The morning stars together sang,
And praise throughout the welkin rung;
All beings then in sweet employ,
Aloud did shout for sacred joy.
