"It is with the utmost Pleasure I acquaint you of an expected Visit at Martinico and Guadaloupe, where they are removing all their Effects to the Mountains, pulling up all their Pavements, heaving up Breast Works, building Batteries, &c.--The preventing the Dutch from supplying them, has rais'd the Fish there to 13 Pieces of Eight, Beef at 20 Or 22 ditto. Flour at 25 :=and none in their Stores - His Majesty's Sloop Antigua has taken a French private Sloop of War of 12 Carriage Guns and 137 Men, after an Engagement of one Hour.- The Antigua met with no loss, the Frenchmen had 5 killed and 6 wounded : She is carried into Antigua. The French embargo their Privateers as fast as they come in. Such is their Situation at present.-Nine Vessels in ten of the Dutch Traders, are taken by our Privateers cruizing between the Virgin Islands and Martinico."
