Harvey Seil Tells Members of Middlesex Council About "Pure Food."
AN INTERESTING TALK
After the business session of Middlesex Council No. 1,100, Royal Arcanum, in their rooms at Odd Fellows' hall last night, Harvey Seil, Ph. D., of the government pure food department, gave a lecture on the subject "Pure Food."
Mr. Seil, who is a member of the council, gave an interesting talk on the methods used in detecting whether foods are pure or not. He exhibited several samples, showing the difference between the genuine and the adulterated. After the lecture several present asked questions concerning the methods and things used to adulterate and those used as preservatives. The lecture was an exceedingly interesting one and was enjoyed by all present.
In spite of the weather there were a good many present, including friends of the members. A social time followed and cigars were passed.
At the business session a communication was received from the New Brunswick Council in regard to forming a baseball league among the several councils in this vicinity. A committee, composed of Eugene Hope, John Phillips and George Mills, were named to meet with the committees to be appointed by the other councils.
The councils that will be in the league are New Brunswick, Metuchen, Woodbridge, Rahway and Middlesex. The pinochle tournament committee will meet with those from the three other councils to decide the prizes to be awarded the winners in the recent tournament.
The annual session of the grand council will be held at Lakewood next Monday and Tuesday, May 3 and 4. Past Regent L. J. Hope and Regent George E. Mead will represent the local council.
