Richard Harrington, chairman of the Republican State Central Committee, sends the following communication to the Morning News, with a request that it be published:
HEADQUARTERS OF THE REPUBLICAN STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF DELAWARE, DOVER, DEL., NOV. 9, 1882.-To the Republicans of Delaware: We are defeated, but not demoralized. Our fight was for principle, and we have been temporarily overwhelmed through the liberal use of money by our opponents. At the election last Tuesday the Republican party of the State for the first time in 20 years did not expend a penny to influence a voter, change the judgment or corrupt the conscience of a single man; while our opponents, from a full treasury, bought the consciences and votes of men as they would buy sheep in the shambles. Of course we feel chagrined at our defeat, but, as I write, I feel a deep sense of admiration for those Republicans who, burdened with poverty and in many instances cursed with dark skins, stood up in the face of pecuniary appeals and asserted their manhood at the polls. We are beaten now, but it cannot be possible that such integrity, fortitude and vigor as was exhibited in the face of such temptations can always be kept under by the tricks of professional politicians and the purchase of voters. Man- hood and right will in the end assert their power, and even if you and I shall pass away without a knowledge that truth is finally triumphant, our children will live to enjoy its blessings; under a government not only Democratic in name, but Republican in fact.
RICHARD HARRINGTON,
Chairman Republican State Central Committee.

Main Argument
the republican party suffered defeat in the 1882 delaware election due to opponents' lavish spending to buy votes, but ran the purest campaign in 20 years without corrupting any voters, and such integrity will ultimately prevail for a truly republican government.
