YELLOW FEVER.

The New-York Health Officer has reported a case of yellow fever, which he says is "the second instance this season of infection being retained on board a vessel more than a month after the sickness of yellow fever." The first case occurred at Matanzas, where the patient went on shore and died, June 1, after which the vessel (brig Venus, Farrier, of Providence) arrived at New-York, and probably performed her regular quarantine. On the 28th of June, John Russell shipped on board the vessel; July 2d, she sailed on a new voyage; July 5th, Russell sickened of the fever, and on the 11th he died. The vessel arrived again at New York, from Charleston, August 13, and, says the health officer, "will be detained 30 days for purification." It will be remarked that the sickness of Russell is ascribed, not to a filthy state of the vessel, but to the circumstance that a sick man had been on board of her; and that the lapse of time since the preceding case of sickness seems to have been relied on for security, instead of a cleansing of the vessel.
