A Tribute to the Old Folks
By H. W. Hancey
I'm asked to give a word of welcome
And also a tribute pay,
To our dear fathers and mothers,
Who have gathered here today.
'Tis a task I meet with pleasure
For I love to sing the praise
Of these noble sons and daughters,
Pioneers of latter days.
You who have so valiantly
Fought the battles of life;
And have ever proved true and faithful
When the powers of sin were rife.
You have toiled from morn till evening,
And have never ceased to fight:
But have labored uncomplaining,
For honor, virtue and right.
You have made the desert blossom
By your earnest, faithful, toil;
The curse of God on Eden placed
Is vanishing from the soil.
We, now basking in the sunlight.
Of the blessings you have won,
Gladly meet to show you honor.
For the noble work you've done.
Let me paint another welcome,
One the Father hath in store,
When we've reached the golden river
And this mortal life is o'er.
Yes, a glorious blessed welcome,
Is awaiting you and me,
'Twill be given by the Father,
If we'll only faithful be.
We will hear that blessed plaudit
"Well done, thou faithful ones."
Many things you shall rule over."
For the noble work you've done.
You shall dwell with me in glory
On the earth a thousand years;
When satan's power is vanished,
And there's no more sighs nor tears.
The glories of that blessed abode
Wherein the righteous dwell;
Eye hath not seen, ear hath not heard
No human tongue can tell.
There on glorious worlds Celestial,
With your children and your wives;
All redeemed and made immortal,
You shall enjoy eternal lives.
There blessings honor and glory,
Shall unto you be given;
Pass by the angels and become
Like as the Gods in Heaven.
Now, we gladly bid you welcome,
To our gathering here today;
And we hope you'll all be happy
On this gladsome festive day.
