WASHINGTON-(INS)--Adlai E. Stevenson began work Monday as the Administration's Democratic consultant on Atlantic Pact summit parley planning and President Eisenhower disclosed his "delight" at the role assumed by his onetime rival.
A Nov. 14 letter from the Chief Executive to the man he twice defeated in presidential elections was made public as Stevenson conferred with Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. then settled down at a State Department desk with the avowed hope of being "helpful."
The President's letter. 'released at Mr. Eisenhower's Augusta, Ga., vacation headquarters, revealed that he plans personal conferences with Stevenson before attending the North Atlantic Treaty organization meeting in Paris next month,
Mr. Eisenhower wrote Stevenson:
"Dear Governor.
"I am delighted that you and Foster will be getting together on Monday to discuss our preparations for the NATO meeting in December. I have asked Foster to co-ordinate these preparations as they affect all government agencies, and I share his view that you can be of real help to us in this work
"I regret that on Monday I shall be absent from Washington -at least I hope so -but I am sure that later there will be opportunity for conferences at which we can both be present."
