Full Text

Potato Digger.--We were shown yesterday the model of a machine designed for digging potatoes, constructed by Mr. F. Jones, of Otter Lake. The machine is arranged with a sort of scraper in front, like the cow-catcher on a locomotive, which being set in the ground, the whole hill or row of potatoes and earth are carried over it and received on a sort of rack, through which the earth falls and the potatoes pass to a large box, which holds some four or five bushels. It is thought that a man with a good pair of horses will be able to dig from three to five acres per day. An application will be made for a patent, as soon as a more perfect model can be made. As far as we can judge of the matter, we should think it well calculated for the purposes intended, and promises to be as great an improvement over the "shovel and the hoe" as McCormick's Reaper is over the sickle.
