Mr. Vincent, an Erie (N. Y.) attorney, sent a letter to Mayor Stokley, of Phila., which was received on Saturday, conveying the startling information that a man in that county, while in fear of death from serious illness, had confessed to having murdered James Neady, a colored porter in the employ of S. S. White at his dental depot Arch street below Sixth, on October 7, 1865 and robbed the place of $500 worth of gold, etc.

The murder created great excitement at the time, and a party named Hugh Donnelly was arrested by the detectives on suspicion of being the murderer but he was discharged. The letter presents the details of the crime with correctness. The matter is to be investigated by the authorities. It had long since been forgotten oral public.
