A FATAL FALL.
Washington, Aug. 5. - The back part of the United States Hotel, situated on Pacific avenue, fell in without warning yesterday evening and buried in the ruins a number of people estimated at from seven to thirty.
A general fire alarm was sounded which brought out a number of fire engines, hook and ladder companies and sound forces. The cries and moans could be heard from the ruins and it was supposed that all who were imprisoned were not dead.
Later dispatches say that Mrs. Belding, wife of the proprietor of the hotel and two others have been rescued. The greatest efforts are being put forth to rescue the remaining victims, but it is feared all are dead.
