"Short Symphony," the brilliant composition by Howard Swanson, formerly of Cleveland, has the musical critics of New York in a dither of ecstasy. Since famed Dimitri Mitropoulos introduced the score at Carnegie Hall recently with the Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert was a smashing success, and they are terming the piece "a work of genius." Pictured from left to right are Mitropoulos, Clara Reesch, who conducted Swanson's chamber music at the Locust Valley Festival last summer; Georgia-born young Swanson, and Alma Morgenthau, patron of the arts.
