PHILADELPHIA, Sep. 7.

Last evening one of the people late belonging to the sloop Industry, of Providence (Rhode Island) arrived in town from Shrewsbury : He informs, that last Tuesday morning, off Sandy Hook, they discovered a fleet of 15 sail of British line of battle Ships ; that the sloop was soon after chased and run ashore near Shrewsbury, by an armed brig, and lost. but the crew were saved. The whole of Tuesday and Wednesday the above fleet. and near one hundred sail of other vessels. ships and brigs, were seen to pass the Hook, apparently from the southward, but could not learn certainly where they were from-While some conjecture that the above fleet is from Charlestown with the troops &c. of that garrison, others say, that the transports must be from England, for the purpose of taking off the garrison of New York.
