GOOD ROADS MEN OF ALABAMA INVADE CITY OF PENSACOLA

A party of Alabamians arrived last evening at the San Carlos and will remain until about noon today when by auto they will proceed to Fairhope, get lunch and be met by a committee of Mobile citizens, which will act as a sort of welcoming committee to Mobile. In that city a two-day convention of automobile men will take place, and will be terminated by boat excursion, fishing trip, and with all the trimmings thrown in free. A delightful time is looked for by all in Mobile.

In the party were the following: J. A. Rountree, secretary of the United States Good Roads Association, of Birmingham; R. J. Barr, of Troy, Ala., president of the Alabama Automobile Dealers' Association; Col. John Gamble, of Troy, Ala.; C. B. Motter, of Troy, Ala.; Ben Stoll and J. E. Pierce, of Montgomery, Ala.

They arrived from Montgomery last evening by auto, and decided to spend the night in Pensacola.

Colonel Rountree, whose name as a good roads man is known from the Great Lakes to the Gulf, and from Alabama to Arizona, is a guest of the association, and he is down on the program for one of the principal addresses on good roads. Twenty years ago Mr. Rountree was in Pensacola. "I remember the deep sand I used to have to go through, here oysters we used to get, the inconvenience suffered, but now, well, Pensacola is a made-over city, and is a beautiful place. And the streets are just as pretty as they can be. One would never know the city of my first visit and that of today."

He said the party found roads in this immediate vicinity in good shape, and the trip, withal, was a very enjoyable one thus far, and hoped it would so continue to the end.
