Hon. G. W. Jones.—That the nomination of Gen. Pierce should meet the decided approbation of Hon. G. W. Jones, will amount to no surprise with those who are as well acquainted with his untiring devotion to all the elements and principles of a truly republican form of government, as we are. "Measures not Men," purity of our happy form of government, and a never-ending exertion to guard and foster the people's interests, being Mr. Jones motto, who could more readily respond to the nomination of such a man as Gen. Pierce? In a letter to a friend in Sumner county Mr. Jones says:
"Gen. Franklin Pierce of New Hampshire, is our candidate for President. He is of your school, a radical democrat—more thoroughly so than any man we have had for years. He is good and true upon all parts of the ground, and will make a good President, and will be elected."
It is observable that all the editors, whig and democratic, appear to be perfectly posted up in regard to Gen. Scott's name. We have not seen a single newspaper or bulletin board that publishes it as Winfield B. Scott. Winfield H. Scott. Winfield O. Scott, or Winfield R. Scott.—Nashville Banner.
Yes, we believe you're correct—we all know Gen. Scott's name, and even a portion of his dress: he wears a black boot and a white one.
