WANT CROWLEY TO COACH GONZAGA

EAST LANSING, Mich.—While the coach of a losing football team may have his periods of worry and wonder, concerning how long he can hold his berth against the demands of irate fans, alumni and students of colleges where the coaches are winners also have some anxious moments. Winning coaches seem to be in demand.

Such is the case at Michigan State, where Jimmy Crowley has just ended the most successful season the Spartans have had in 15 years.

One of Horsemen.

Crowley, one of the famous Four Horsemen of Notre Dame's great team of 1924, came to Michigan State two years ago, after Harry Kipke had moved over to Ann Arbor to take up coaching duties at Michigan university. This year his team tied Michigan and Detroit university, ancient rivals, beat the great Colgate scoring machine from the east, and lost only to Georgetown in a night game, the first and only nocturnal contest engaged in.

Now comes word that Crowley has been offered the coaching job at Gonzaga university, Spokane. What the offer is and if Crowley will accept are not known. Crowley hasn't talked much about the matter, except to admit he had received an offer.

Crowley Well Liked.

The news, however, has thrown the campus and the town itself into a state of excitement. Crowley's contract has another year to run, but if he decides to go, it is understood he will receive a better offer from the local school than he now has.

Crowley, whose witty repartee on and off the gridiron has made him almost as famous as did his football prowess, is a great favorite with students, players and townsfolk alike. He is wanted here both as a coach and a resident.
