BOSTON, Jan. 6.
AFFAIRS WITH SPAIN.
We are indebted to Mr. Ezra Davis, of this town, for the following highly important and very agreeable information. Mr. Davis left the Vineyard on Wednesday evening the last, and says, that all our differences with the Spanish Government were amicably settled to Mr. Pinckney's entire satisfaction. This most pleasing intelligence was brought to the Vineyard, by the ship Resolution, capt. Daniel Rogers, of Gloucester, (Cape-Ann) who left Lisbon the 20th of November last, and arrived at the Vineyard, after a passage of 40 days.
Mr. Davis took the precaution to make his minutes from the verbal communication of the Captain, at the moment of his arrival. Capt. Rogers frequently saw Mr. Pinckney at Lisbon, who had sailed five days before capt. R. left that place, in a Swedish vessel, bound for Charleston, South-Carolina. Mr. Pinckney told capt. R. there the Spanish Court had agreed to pay for all ships, cargoes and freights according to the late stipulations with the American government, It is understood also, that all our territorial disputes with Spain are happily settled; and that the general aspect of our diplomatic concerns in that quarter, was auspicious and flattering in a high degree.—The vessel was bound to Gloucester, and the news cannot therefore, be received from her directly, for many days. Capt. Rogers has dispatches on board for the administration, which no doubt will be sent forward by express as soon as they arrive at Cape-Ann. Mr. Pinckney cannot be expected for some time, as the vessel he was in was a dull sailer. This paper will probably therefore convey the first intelligence to Washington of this happy termination of our casual disputes with a friendly government, whose true interests are interwoven with those of this country, and whose commercial prosperity must be our first and most sincere wish. We can only add, that we have taken the utmost pains to ascertain the above-mentioned particulars, and have no doubt of their being substantially correct.—Democrat.
