The gale at Chicago, on the 24th ult. was very destructive. It swept a district of country west of Chicago, about five miles wide, with the force of a hurricane, prostrating fences, trees, dwellings, and whatever stood in its path. The Chicago Journal gives a list of more than thirty houses and barns unroofed or utterly demolished in the vicinity of Downer's Grove and East DuPage. Several children and adults were injured, and a woman, whose name is not mentioned, was killed. The extent of the damage is not yet known.—N. Y. Jour. of Com.
