Heintzleman Promises To Take Steps To Aid Bristol Bay Natives

ANCHORAGE, (AP)—Governor Heintzleman has promised "to take what steps I can" to assist natives in the stricken Bristol Bay area.

"There is a problem, a bad situation there. I will have no definite comment to make until I give the problem a complete study."

"I went to the Bristol Bay area," he continued, "looking for information; trying to find out what might be done. I wanted to get in touch with the canneries about the employment of more people. We would, of course, hope to alleviate the situation by urging the companies to provide more employment."

Heintzleman said there is a definite need to broaden the industrial base in the area.

The governor reportedly will ask the packers to hire all available local help before sending outside for workers.
