Full Text

Should we be seasonably furnished with this important document, we anticipate the pleasure of inserting it in our next. Until the treaty is fairly before the public, it may be considered illiberal and premature, to incriminate the administration, for their dereliction of both the real and ostensible causes of war. We trust that the honour of the nation has not been compromised. No thanks, however, to Mr. Madison! If the administration have not struck their flag, we shall be happy to publish the fact.

On the receipt of the tidings of peace at Newport, salutes were fired from the forts and the flotilla; the bells were rung, and the military paraded and fired a feu de joie. In the evening, the town and forts were brilliantly illuminated.
