Cecelia Goshinski has been chosen to represent Tolleson Union High School in the contest which is being sponsored by the National Society for the State Pilgrim who will become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Pilgrimage. This is the eighth consecutive year the contest has been conducted. Previous to the last two years trips to the nations capital have been awarded to the winner from each state but due to wartime conditions this plan has been discontinued and a $100 war bond is now given to the winners. The senior class selects three girls that have the following qualities: 1 Dependability which includes truthfulness and loyalty, (2) Service under which comes cooperation and courtesy, (3) Leadership including personality and self-control, (4) Patriotism which means an unselfish interest in your family. school, community, and nation. The faculty then chooses from the three girls and the name is sent to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Each 4-year high school in the state is eligible to enter one girl as candidate. The girls are then given a test on attitudes and knowledge related to good citizenship and character. A committee of the Arizona D.A.R. chooses the winner with the State Dept. of Education acting in the advisory capacity on the test papers of the contestants. Celia will receive her test in the near future.
