Judge Wills Swears Out Warrant—Lively Chase to Station.
Mount Holly, N. J., June 19.—A sensational episode occurred here today when Harry Allen Baxter of New York, who for some time has been living at the home of Former Judge B. P. Wills, attempted to shoot the latter. Baxter was forced to flee from the town, being aided in his escape by Mrs. Wills.
Judge Wills swore out a warrant for Baxter's arrest and officers are pursuing the fugitive.
Baxter came to Mount Holly several weeks ago and became engaged to Judge Wills' daughter Mabel. The judge opposed the match but his wife favored Baxter and the latter was permitted to reside at the Wills home.
Today Judge Wills ordered Baxter out and the latter pointed a pistol at him. The judge grasped the weapon and thrashed his would-be assailant. Baxter, without hat or coat, rushed from the house, pursued by Judge Wills and a crowd of citizens and at the station he was again attacked by the judge.
Baxter again drew his pistol but was prevented from discharging it by the crowd. Judge Wills swore out a warrant for Baxter's arrest while the latter was being driven towards Burlington in a carriage by Mrs. Wills, who came to his rescue at the station.
Baxter was known to be in the Wills home last night and a crowd of masked men surrounded the house while tar and feathers were at hand, but he was not molested.
