Full Text

The Senate has elected David Davis as President of the Senate--Monday's session resulted in the election of Senator Bayard, the Democratic representative from Delaware pro tem.

Thursday the Republicans gained the ascendency and succeeded in electing Mr. Davis. However, the two political bodies are so near alike in number, the Senate is yet in a very unsettled condition. Absence, death or even sickness, might drive the majority to the minority, and, under the policy inaugurated, the majority may take the advantage, upset the organization, and elect a new President.
