First "Hit of the Week" Record, Selling for Fifteen Cents and Promising to Revolutionize the Once Dormant Talking Machine Business, Is Presented to Mayor Dwight Winter of Springfield, Mass.
Vincent Lopez, Whose "Good Evening Everybody, Lopez Speaking," Is Familiar to Millions of Radio Fans. Autographed the First "Hit of the Week" Record to Come From the Presses. These new music making discs, weighing little more than a wisp of straw are printed on flat bed presses by use of a new patented process known as durium, the discovery of Dr. Hal T. Beans, Professor of Chemistry at Columbia University. Durium Is a resin which can be applied in liquid form to heavy paper. Once hardened with the music recorded it can be hammered, scratched and bent and still outplay the old types of phonograph records.
Lopez and his orchestra celebrated the opening of the first "Hit of the Week" sales district, which centers in Springfield, Mass., and Mayor Winter of Springfield was the guest of honor, along with prominent New York business men who are part of a million dollar durium corporation, sponsoring the new "Hit of the Week" music idea.
A new record, chosen by Lopez, Flo Ziegfeld, theatrical producer, and Eddie Cantor of "Whoopee" stage fame, is offered the public each week.
