NAACP To Elect Officers Today
Climaxing NAACP Sunday today in Atlanta Churches, Gloster Current, National Director of Branches, will speak at Central Methodist Church, Rev. L. Scott Allen, pastor at 4 p. m. Mr. Current will speak on the subject of "Housing Tensions." The Executive Committee of the Branch will meet in the church at 2:30 p. m. The pastors of all Atlanta Churches have been requested to emphasize the program of the NAACP today, as a part of the church campaign for each of them to raise a minimum of $100 by January 1st for the Defense and Convention Fund, and for Branch Offices expenses. The Four O'clock Meeting will be the annual gathering of the Atlanta Branch; the annual report will be held, election of officers and 16 members of the National Board will be conducted.
Plans have been laid for the observance of Emancipation Day on January 1st, when Bishop R. R. Wright, of the Sixth Episcopal District of the AME Church, will be the principal speaker. Bishop Wright and his family have long been associated with the NAACP, and has expressed himself as heartily endorsing its program. He is recognized as a leader in the struggle for equality and justice for all citizens. The $100 church drive, the Freedom Bond sale and the Xmas Seal sale will be reported on the January 1st meeting.
Another project of the NAACP is the Atlanta Branch's Xmas Jamboree at the Royal Peacock Club, Tuesday, December 12 from nine to one o'clock. A floor show, under direction of Jack Gibson will feature three bands: John Peake and his Band; and the following local entertainers: blues singer, Melvin Smith and Dozier Parker, ballad singer, from the Poinciana Club; Ray Sneed will bring Ruby Calhoun, "Lady" Booker, "Billy" Wright, "Little Church," Zilla Mays, "Little Helen" and "Tippin Hawks"; Dave Bondue will bring from the Peacock Show, "Doctor" Willie Jones, Von and Gertru, dance exhibitionists, Titus Turner, tap dancing Pedro Lane and others.
Disc Jockeys from four radio stations will participate on the program, and members of the Women's Auxiliary as well as the organization at large are arranging special parties for the affair.
