Full Text

The Citizens' Meeting.—In our local columns will be found a very full report of the meeting held at Virginia last night to consider the Consolidation Bill. What it amounted to can be best ascertained by reading the report. We have seen enough and heard enough to satisfy us that the only consolidation bill that would suit the class that rule Virginia, would be one so outrageously oppressive on this and other outside communities that we never could assent to it. The condition of Gold Hill is not desperate. We can survive under the existing state of things, and leave Virginia to the rule of those who have "got her by the umbilical."
