Inspector C. R. Tillotson of the U. S. Forest Service, who is stationed at the New England Forestry Experimental Station at Amherst, Mass., arrived in this city Tuesday to confer with Forest Commissioner Neil L. Violette.
Inspector Tillotson, accompanied by District Supervisor George Faulkner of the State department of forestry, will leave today on an inspection trip of several of the proposed sites for new fire lookout stations which are to be erected next Spring.
The Federal Department acts in cooperation with the State in establishing certain stations outside of the Forestry District, supplying a part of the necessary funds and acting in a supervisory capacity, and the final decision as to the location of these stations is left partly to the Federal officials.
On this trip Inspector Tillotson and Mr. Faulkner will visit tower sites at Dixmont and Charleston, which have been selected as suitable for the erection of towers outside the District.
Lack of snow is slowing up the construction work which is contemplated in several parts of the State this Fall.
