PRIMARY ELECTIONS,
Will the State Central Committee heed the demand of the people for nominations by primary elections?
It is questionable, but, the few who have manipulated the political program may realize that the better policy is to not antagonize the great majority of the Democracy who vote.
The issue in Louisiana is plain. The fight should be for principles and not men. The people want home rule, that is, they demand a return of the power which was vested in the governor when the State was in danger of control by aliens, carpet-baggers, political thieves and scoundrels. And the people demand primary elections because they desire to express their choice directly for men who will represent their views. However, while the demand on the part of the great majority of Democrats who vote is for primary elections and home rule, there are candidates who would not oppose the present system if they could control and manipulate the machine. The inclination and tendency of a man in office or seeking a soft job political may be sized up by his talk. "If the administration," "the administration candidate," or "would the administration favor," as if the administration is supreme over the people?
The Caucasian will engage in no personality, but is determined on fighting the machine. The people must rule. If they can not rule then they must surrender body and soul to the machine.
