County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service offices will begin this month making incentive payments on wool and lambs sold during the 1961 marketing year which ended March 31.
The payment rates, to bring the average wool price of 42.9 cents per pound up to the incentive level of 62 cents per pound, will be $44.50 for each $100 a producer received from the sale of wool. The unshorn lamb payment rate will be 76 cents per hundredweight.
Payments for the 1960 marketing year—based on an average wool price of 42 cents per pound—were $47.60 per $100 worth of wool and 80 cents per hundredweight of unshorn lambs.
To determine the wool incentive payment for individual producers, the rate of 44.5 percent is applied to the dollar return the producer received after paying marketing charges.
Chairman Brozhead of the County ASC committee said that incentive payments to county producers under the 1960 program totaled $66,180.36. This includes $4,067.01 which was deducted from payments for advertising, promotion and related market development activities on wool and lamb.
