HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
MONDAY, April 16.

The question on Mr. Macon's motion was taken and lost.
A motion was made to modify the resolution so as to take the questions on the reduction of the army and navy separately.
This motion prevailed.
The question to reduce the army was taken and carried by a large majority, 77 rising in the affirmative. The question to reduce the navy was also carried, 67 in the affirmative. The resolution was therefore passed.
The committee then rose and reported the resolution. The house proceeded to consider; but before any question was taken an adjournment was called for and carried.
TUESDAY, April 17.
Mr. Smilie moved a resolution to rescind the resolution passed by both houses to adjourn Congress on the 23d instant.
Mr. Gholson moved to amend the resolution so as to authorise the adjournment on the first of May. After some desultory debate the resolution with the amendment was laid on the table.
YAZOO PETITION!
Mr. Randolph moved a resolution to reject the petition, of the Yazoo claimants, presented to this house some time since.--The question for the consideration of this resolution was taken by ayes and noes and lost--Ayes 46. noes 54.
Mr. Randolph then moved that the petitioners have leave to withdraw their petition.
A long debate took place, which lasted until two o'clock; when Mr. Gholson moved to lay the subject on the table. This motion prevailed.
A communication from the Secretary of the Treasury was received, covering a statement of the receipts and expenditures at the Treasury. This statement was made agreeably to Mr. Randolph's resolution, passed some days since. Referred to the committee of the whole to whom was referred the bill laying additional duties on goods, wares and merchandize, imported into the U. S.
A bill from the Senate, for the establishment of a quarter master's department, was read twice and referred to a committee of the whole for to-morrow.
The bill to amend the Alexandria turnpike act was returned from the senate with an amendment. The house concurred with the senate, and passed the bill as amended.
The Batture Bill was returned from the senate with amendments.
