For a month George E. Potter of 177 Tenth street, Williamsburgh, has missed articles of clothing and jewelry from time to time. On Saturday morning he missed a new overcoat valued at $35. Reporting his losses to the police of the Fourth street station, he incidentally mentioned that a young gentleman who was keeping company with his daughter said the pawnshops would be a good place to look for the missing articles.
Detective Holland, when he found the coat in a Grand street pawnshop got a description of the person who had pawned the garment. It tallied with that given of "the young gentleman." At night the young gentleman, when arrested, acknowledged that he had stolen the coat. He also said that he had taken the other goods missed. A pair of bracelets and ear rings, which he had presented to Mr. Potter's daughter, were among the articles stolen. The detective arrested the prisoner who said his name was Edward Peterson of North Eighth street. He is a clerk in a furnishing store.
