Gen. Dundonald Enters the City With a Regiment—End of a Long and Bloody Siege.

London, March 1.—It is officially announced by the war office that Gen. Lord Dundonald with the Natal carbineers and a composite regiment entered Ladysmith this morning.

Ladysmith, March 1.—This morning a portion of the forces of Gen. Buller, headed by Gen. Dundonald, with a full force of Natal carbineers and seven companies of other regiments, among them some Dublin fusiliers and Lancashires, have reached this city and raised the siege. They came via the road across Klip river and east of Caesar's Hill.

Everybody had become worn out by the continuous strain. The people slept little, and romped about even careless of the efforts of Boer snipers. Hours by hours their eyes were glued to telescopes. At last glad news came when runners yesterday morning brought information that Buller expected to relieve garrison within twenty four hours, and the consequent rejoicing was great.

After the capture of Pieters Hill the Boers simply disappeared as the British advanced. There was no general retiring movement, and Dundonald sent a scouting expedition west Tuesday night which reconnoitered all night. Wednesday it reported he could reach Ladysmith and he was directed to do so. He had little difficulty in making his way through ravines and around hills, and last evening he crossed the plain following the railroad track and entered the city.
