Mattingly and the Delinquent List.
Mattingly, in his paper of the 6th, as usual, instead of attempting to reply to our article about the Delinquent List, runs off after some mare's nest, and talks about the author of our editorials. That article was written by D. McDonald and no one else.
Mattingly says if the author don't mind his own business he will find himself in trouble, &c. Now the author of that article attends strictly to his own business, and if Mattingly will say to his face what he puts in his paper he will be happy to make a feeling response by way of reminder that he can attend to his own business and help him to some besides.
We intend to try to keep a register of the deliberate lies he publishes, if we can hire clerks enough to write them, and if at the end of the year they will not equal four fifths of his editorial matter, we will try and present him with a skunk's hide to make him a cap, so he can have with him his favorite perfume always and not be so cross because he is deprived of it. Poor old Mattingly! "A skunk by any other name would smell as sweet!"
