Poor Mothers

When children get colds, the measles or the mumps,
Poor mother oft feels she is "down in the dumps".
For fevers and rashes and soreness of throats
She struggles to give the right antidotes.
And then for two weeks she's near driven silly
Seeking for ways to Occupy Willie,
Who, just when he's better, will kindly donate
The ailments he had, to his small sister Kate.

When Willie gets well, back to school he must go.
Comes home first day with "Ma, what do you know!
I sat next to Tommy and shared his lunch box
Till the teacher found out he had chicken pox".

So being a mother is no pleasant dream,
And the mention of germs should cause her scream:
'Cause it's bad enough when the children are well
And they dodge all the germs that cause a sick spell.
