SIOUX CITY, Ia., Sept. 18.-Flood waters, which today inundated thousands of acres of farm land in the Floyd river valley, north of Sioux City and caused loss in property and livestock estimated at the hundreds of thousands of dollars, were sweeping into the outskirts of Sioux City tonight.
Fearing a flood disaster similar to the one 35 years ago, which caused considerable loss of life and enormous property damage, the residents of the lowlands in Sioux City moved their valuables and families to places of safety. Police detachments armed with ropes, ladders and rowboats were at danger points ready to offer assistance in case serious emergency should arise.
Floyd river bottoms near Leeds and Springdale, suburbs of the city, were inundated early in the evening when a wall of water swept down from the north with a mighty roar. Hundreds of acres of lowlands were covered in a few minutes.
Warning whistles were sounded throughout the late afternoon and evening at intervals of 15 minutes.
