Way Nor? The Columbus Gazette, a Chase paper, declares that Seward's record in favor of giving to negroes the elective franchise would lose him Ohio. The Cincinnati Gazette copies the article approvingly. Now, if Seward's record, in which he favors giving to colored persons the privilege of voting, would cause him to be defeated in this State, should the Chicago Convention nominate him for President, why should not the Republican party of this State be defeated with any candidate, in consideration of having in the Legislature, by a party vote, refused to submit an amendment to the Constitution to a vote of the people, the object of which amendment was to prevent all kinds of colored voting?—Chillicothe Advertiser.
