While the Klondike gold fields are far from being exhausted, many of the adventurers who have gone north are finding that, after all, the richest pay dirt is to be found in this country. Mining at Dawson is hard work, and numerous miners who do not like hard work have found that it is far easier and even more profitable to organize mining companies and float the stock among credulous persons at home. Consul McCook, of Dawson, sends word that the mining claims represented by these new companies are almost invariably of little value.
