EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.
The Executive Committee of the Conservative party met yesterday and transacted business of an important nature. The representation of wards was increased, as will be seen, to a total of sixty-six. The country districts will have three delegates each, making a total of forty-two, which is nearly two-thirds of the entire city delegation. It is hoped that this will satisfy a greater number than any other regulation that could have been made. It is impossible to satisfy every one; yet we believe that under this arrangement few will find cause to complain. The city will certainly acquiesce, and every ward should be casting about for the best men to send as delegates. The Committee have appointed Saturday, the 10th inst., for holding primary meetings in the city and country, and they recommend that selections be made by ballot. The object of this is simply to insure a fair selection, to thwart any cut-and-dried meetings, which might be there in some man's pocket, and to give the people a fair opportunity to express their preferences. We trust our country friends will realize the fact that they have good friends in the city, who wish to do them justice, and they should remember that they have as much or more at stake than the city. We would urge them to show their strength not only by sending forty-two solid, live men to the Convention, but by hunting up their old certificates and polling a heavy vote at the election. The party and the country need their help, and they need ours, Every true Conservative should stand ready to support the nominees of the Convention, and to know no city, no country but Shelby county and the good of the people at large. Such is the policy of the Ledger in this local election.
