Full Text
Judge Bennett, after fully considering all of the points raised, ordered an election for county officers in the Black Hills counties holding, of course, that the officers appointed by the governor could only hold until the next general election. This is as it should be, and it is unfortunate that any have held otherwise. The people of the Black Hills are competent to govern themselves and they should be given an opportunity to do so at the earliest possible moment. While most of the officers appointed by the governor were men good and true the feeling of jealousy growing out of their appointment has worked against them and Seth Bullock, Sheriff of Lawrence county, is the only officer, of any prominence who has been nominated by either party for a re-election.
