Lone Extortion Plotter Held

PHOENIX, Nov. 22.—(U.P.)—An alleged one man extortion "ring" was in jail here today charged with seeking to obtain $2,000 from George C. Mueller, Phoenix businessman, under threat of death for Mueller's seven-year-old son.

The man was arrested shortly after midnight when he called at a lonely spot on the desert near here to collect the money. Detectives had lain in hiding nearby through two nights. The suspect was unarmed and offered no resistance to arrest.

Although Mueller received four letters, all warning him not to communicate with police and referring to the sender as "we" police said the prisoner accepted sole responsibility for the crime.
