Longwood College will have a cooling system for Jarman Hall by June 4, the day before the beginning of the commencement exercises.
President Dabney S. Lancaster made the announcement Friday that the contract had been let to the Virginia Air Conditioning Company, of Lynchburg.
The Lynchburg firm submitted a bid of $12,220, the lowest of six bids. The other five firms bidding on the contract are all located in Richmond.
Dr. Lancaster said that the bid is within the $12,500 remaining in the insurance fund which Governor Stanley authorized the college to spend for the installation of the equipment. The insurance was received after the burning of White House hall.
The president added that work is to be completed in time for graduating exercises.
