Raleigh, Jan. 8.—Looking over the record of his four years, Governor McLean has discovered that he has granted some form of clemency to 811 prisoners and that only 29 have outraged him so that he revoked their liberties.
Governor McLean has had more than 29 prisoners to send back, but not all of them were his. He revoked several pardons and commutations which had been made by his predecessors.
The McLean administration has broken the record for death penalties. There have been 39 electrocuted under his rule of four years, an average of about ten a year.
Considering the fact that the electric chair started doing business 20 years ago, and has taken the life of less than 100, the McLean record stacks high.
If you must carry a chip on your shoulder get a job in a lumber yard where it won't be noticed.
