BRIDGEPORT DENTIST LOSES CONTROL OF MACHINE.
Dashes With Elm Over an Embankment—Picked Up Unconscious by Trolley Men—Several of His Ribs Fractured and One Driven Into Lung—Family Had Just Left Machine.
Bridgeport, April 17.—Dr. George C. Eighme, a prominent dentist of this city, will doubtless lose his life as the result of an automobile accident this afternoon at 4 o'clock that happened at near Ash creek, the dividing line between Bridgeport and Fairfield. Dr. Eighme lost control of his machine which he had bought only two weeks ago and it went over an embankment at the side of the road, throwing him, the only occupant, into a lot the other side of the wall, the automobile fairly landing on him. Several of the doctor's ribs were fractured and one of his ribs punctured his left lung. He was picked up unconscious by the trolley car employes and carried to his home, 705 Wood avenue, where it was said to-night that his death is expected at any time.
Only a few moments before the accident occurred, the members of Dr. Eighme's family, his wife and two children, had left the automobile in Fairfield and boarded a trolley car for Bridgeport as a tire of the auto received a puncture and flattened out.
Dr. Eighme considered it best to put his family on the car and take the machine to Bridgeport as light as possible. He had not had a great deal of experience in handling it and just how the control of it was lost is not known.
He was seen speeding at a rapid rate along the road near Ash creek when suddenly the automobile swerved and went into the wall. Before Dr. Eighme could move the heavy machine fell on him and it was some moments before the big carriage was lifted from his prostrate form.
