VANHAZANDANKC THROWN IN JAIL

Chair Maker Who Lived in Tent On Fifth Avenue Must Face a Serious Charge.

TRIES TO RUIN LITTLE GIRLS.

Many Children Enticed to His Tent But He Fails to Accomplish Dastardly Crime.

Alfred Vanhazandankc, the man who has been living in a tent on Fifth avenue for the last six or eight months, was arrested last Thursday on the charge of assault in the second degree, the warrant for his arrest having been sworn out by County Attorney Ayers.

His bond was fixed at $1,000 and as he was unable to furnish this amount, he was remanded to the custody of the sheriff and is now lying in jail waiting for his preliminary hearing which will be held within a few days.

The charge against Vanhazandankc is a most serious one, and if it is proven, he stands an excellent chance of spending a term in the state institution located at Deer Lodge. It is alleged that for several weeks past he has been enticing little girls into his tent and making indecent proposals to them.

Latterly he has made his proposals more forcible, and Thursday evening, it is charged, made an attempt to rape a little seven year old daughter of a well known citizen. The child screamed and he permitted her to leave the tent. She informed her parents and the warrant was sworn out as above stated.
