Georgia—The Georgia State Convention assembled in the Representative Chamber, at Milledgeville, on the afternoon of the 12th instant, there being 61 counties represented, and 134 delegates present. Nineteen counties unrepresented. Gov. Gilmer was elected President of the Convention, and Messrs. Hansell, Torrance and Mosely, Secretaries. Gov. Gilmer, on taking the chair, returned thanks for the honor conferred, doubting his qualifications to do full justice to the choice, and relying on the liberality and courtesy of the Convention to sustain him, and closed his address with some happy allusions to the deeply important character of the assemblage, and its consequences to the future rights and welfare of the State.
A resolution was adopted, on motion of Col. Torrence, for the appointment of a Committee of 21, to draft resolutions for the consideration of the Convention.
Messrs. Rockwell, Dawson, and Allen, were appointed a Committee to draft rules for the government of the Convention.
The Convention then adjourned until 3 o'clock, P. M. the next day.
