Berlin. Jan. 1.

There continues from Time to Time to arrive here Foreigners, in order to take Part in the new Establishment of the Company of Embden. Amongst others a Merchant of Brussels has offer'd to lend the Company 700,000 Florins upon certain Conditions.

A Person from Brussels wrote to Voltaire to obtain for him an Employment on Board the first Ship which the Company should send to China. The Poet answer'd him by a Sort of Fable, which was:

"A Traveller arrived at a certain City, where he understood that a great Lord intended to build a sumptuous Palace, the Plan of which was scarcely form'd, and applied to be Porter to the Palace. You Shall, said the Lord, be Porter, provided you live to see it finish'd."
