NEW-HOLLAND.

The English ship Lady Nelson, sent to explore the navigation of New-Holland, and survey its harbours, shoals, &c. has discovered that that country consists of two islands, this ship having actually sailed through the passage between them, entering on the eastern side a little to the southward of Botany-bay, and coming out on the western side near St. Peter's islands. The passage varied greatly in width, in some parts being quite narrow, and in others so wide as to be out of sight of land as they sailed along. The country in many parts exhibited marks of great fertility, though the western coast was barren and uninhabitable. The English colony at Botany-Bay astonishes in a surprising degree. A fertile soil, healthy climate, and habits of industry, have given a spring to the population. Towns are rising, composed of brick edifices, many of them in a high style of elegance, and expense. Such is the prosperity of the colony, how most of those who went but as convicts choose to remain there after the expiration of their time of banishment.
