SHOOTERS STILL IN JAIL.
Editor Smith of Storm Lake, is Denied Bail.
Storm Lake, Jan. 27.—It has been decided not to admit Albert A. Smith, editor of the Buena Vista Vidette, who shot ex-County Attorney H. I. Schultz last Saturday, to bail, until every doubt as to the recovery of Schultz has been dispelled.
Schultz continues to improve and it is the opinion of the attending physicians that he will recover. The only danger is blood poison in the arm which was pierced by one of the two shots which took effect, and which was also fractured and severely bruised by his leap from the window.
The statements which have been continually made by Mr. Smith in which he has alleged that Schultz assaulted his wife are denied by Schultz.
The alleged interview with Will Pattie, a brother of Mrs. Smith, in a Des Moines newspaper, stating that he (Pattie) had a statement signed by both Mr. and Mrs. Schultz that the assault had been made, is also denied by Schultz.
Information has been filed by County Attorney Whitney, charging Smith with assault with intent to commit murder, and the matter will be thoroughly tried in the courts. F. A. Faville is Smith's attorney, and it is expected that other well known attorneys will assist in the prosecution. Schultz's two brothers are in the city.
